Bob Hall, John Bett, Bob Abbet, Margaret Donchi, Jim Kershaw, Bob Jessum, the Campbells (Ray & Gail and mother Nellie) and June Blackwell, to name a few, attended the first meeting to discuss a riding club in Barnhartvale. The name Pine Tree was chosen and Bob Abbet was elected president and Margaret Donchi secretary. Later on, in 1967, Pine Tree was registered as a society and club.
Pine Tree was the first club to form outside of the Kamloops Light Horse Club. After Pine Tree Was formed other clubs were organized and followed suit.
Many of the original events at Pine Tree Riding Club were – cowhide race, long distance team saddle up race, and the usual, stake, pole bending and barrel race.
Today Pine Tree is open to host club events as well as providing a facility for others to host events. The ground holds 2 arenas, camping area and concession picnic area along with heated washrooms. The main objective of the club is to bring together equestrians of all ages, in a fun and family orientated atmosphere. A place to further their knowledge of horsemanship and sportsmanship through participation in play days, horse shows, gymkhanas and clinics.
Included in your membership is the use of Pine Tree Riding Club's Facilities, reduced show rates for PTRC events, and eligibility towards the Year-End Awards.
What a great way to get involved in your community. We are always looking for extra helping hands. Without you our club wouldn't be possible!
